ABSTRACT

The major purpose of this research was to examine the activities of the World Health Organization in humanitarian crises, through the study of North-East, Nigeria. The objective of the research is to examine the role of the World Health Organization in abating the impact of the humanitarian crisis in the North-East and the strategies in responding to the crisis. The Role Theory was selected as the theoretical framework to broaden the understanding of the project. Secondary data was used in carrying out this research. The findings from my research include the ultimate goal of the World Health Organization and its global partners is to reduce the rate of death and disease urgently by rapid increase in life-saving health services in the North-East,Nigeria, and the WHO was very effective with the Nigerian Humanitarian Response Plans in 2016 and 2017. The research recommends that the humanitarian crisis in the North-East cannot be abated by just the Nigerian government and its agencies but by a broad alliance of partners to respond quickly and effectively. The intervention should be multi-sectored and multi-dimensional.
